The Arab Cycling Federation and Yarmouk University in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan discussed ways to strengthen joint cooperation to organize an applied scientific conference focused on developing bicycle-friendly infrastructure in cities, supporting the spread of cycling, promoting its use as a sustainable mode of transport, and helping to establish healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyles.
This came during a meeting between H.E. Dr. Yasser Omar Al-Dokhi, President of the Arab Cycling Federation, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Salem Al-Batayneh, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Science at Yarmouk University, in the presence of Dr. Tareq Al-Khayyat, President of the Jordan Cycling Federation, during the President’s visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the invitation of the Jordan Cycling Federation and the Ajyal Al-Salam Authority, to follow the “Dead Sea to Red Sea” cycling race.
The meeting addressed the importance of employing scientific research and academic and sporting expertise in developing a safe urban environment suited to cyclists, in addition to exploring prospects for cooperation among sports federations, academic institutions, and bodies concerned with urban planning, the environment, and public health, contributing to spreading a cycling culture and strengthening its presence in the daily life of Arab communities.
The conference is expected to serve as a scientific and applied platform bringing together academics, researchers, experts, decision-makers, and specialists to review successful experiences, discuss the challenges facing cycling in cities, and produce practical recommendations that help develop infrastructure, improve cyclist safety, and promote the concepts of sustainability and quality of life.
The two sides tentatively agreed to hold the conference at Yarmouk University in May 2027, in cooperation between the University, the Arab Cycling Federation, Al-Hassan Sports City, and the Jordan Cycling Federation, in a step aimed at expanding institutional partnership and harnessing scientific knowledge to serve cycling and develop the conditions for practicing it in Arab cities.
This direction comes within the Arab Cycling Federation’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Arab academic and sporting institutions, supporting initiatives that help develop cycling, broaden its base of participants, and establish its role in supporting public health and sustainable development.
