As part of the preparations for the 2026 Arab Cycling Championships, H.E. Dr. Yasser Omar Al-Dokhi, President of the Arab Cycling Federation, accompanied by Dr. Ashraf Mohamed Sayed Imam, Secretary General of the Federation, and Mr. Mohammed Fadi Hilal Kalash, Executive Secretary of the Federation, met with Mr. Jamal Al Sharif, Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth of the Syrian Arab Republic. The meeting took place during the Federation’s official visit to Damascus to follow up on preparations for hosting the Championships, scheduled to be held in October 2026.
During the meeting, the Arab Cycling Federation and the Syrian Cycling Federation signed the official hosting agreement for the 2026 Arab Cycling Championships. The agreement was signed on behalf of the Arab Cycling Federation by Dr. Ashraf Mohamed Sayed Imam, Secretary General, and on behalf of the Syrian Cycling Federation by Mr. Maher Salim, President of the Federation, in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Sports and Youth and members of the Syrian Cycling Federation’s Board of Directors.
H.E. Dr. Yasser Al-Dokhi emphasized that the Arab Cycling Federation attaches great importance to the successful organization of the Championships, expressing his full confidence in the Syrian Arab Republic’s ability to host a distinguished Arab sporting event that reflects its sporting stature and organizational capabilities. He noted that hosting the Championships represents an important step toward strengthening Arab sports cooperation and reinforcing the bonds of brotherhood among Arab cycling federations.
For his part, Mr. Jamal Al Sharif welcomed the delegation of the Arab Cycling Federation and reaffirmed the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s commitment to providing all the necessary support and resources to ensure the success of the Championships and to deliver an event worthy of the Syrian Arab Republic and Arab sport.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides exchanged commemorative shields in recognition of the strong relations and close cooperation between the Arab Cycling Federation, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and the Syrian Cycling Federation.
Following the meeting, the delegation of the Arab Cycling Federation conducted an inspection visit to the approved race courses and toured the Al-Dimas Shooting and Equestrian Club to review the sports facilities and assess the technical and logistical preparations for hosting the Championships. The delegation was briefed on the ongoing preparations and the readiness of the venues to welcome participating Arab delegations.
The visit forms part of the Arab Cycling Federation’s continuous follow-up efforts to ensure that all technical and organizational requirements are fully completed, guaranteeing the successful staging of the 2026 Arab Cycling Championships and reflecting the distinguished status of cycling throughout the Arab world.
