As part of the preparations for hosting the 2026 Arab Cycling Championships, H.E. Dr. Yasser Omar Al-Dokhi, President of the Arab Cycling Federation, accompanied by Dr. Ashraf Mohamed Sayed Imam, Secretary General of the Federation, and Mr. Mohammed Fadi Kalash, Executive Secretary of the Federation, met with H.E. Maher Marwan Adlabi, Governor of Damascus. The meeting was attended by Mr. Jamal Al Sharif, Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth of the Syrian Arab Republic, and Mr. Maher Salim, President of the Syrian Cycling Federation.
During the meeting, the participants reviewed the organizational and logistical preparations for hosting the Arab Cycling Championships, which will be staged in Damascus in 2026. The event marks the return of the Arab Championships to Syria after an absence of more than twenty years, reflecting the confidence placed in the Syrian Arab Republic to host this major Arab sporting event.
H.E. Dr. Yasser Al-Dokhi stressed that the Arab Cycling Federation attaches great importance to the successful organization of the Championships, praising the support and cooperation provided by the Governorate of Damascus, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and the Syrian Cycling Federation. He noted that these joint efforts would contribute to delivering a championship worthy of the status of Arab cycling while strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation among Arab cycling federations.
For his part, the Governor of Damascus welcomed the Federation’s delegation and affirmed the Governorate’s readiness to provide all necessary support and facilities to ensure the success of the Championships. He emphasized that all available resources would be mobilized to meet the organizational and service requirements needed to present the event at the highest level.
The meeting also concluded with an agreement to establish a joint committee comprising representatives from the Governorate of Damascus, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Arab Cycling Federation, and the Syrian Cycling Federation. The committee will oversee the implementation of the organizational plan and supervise the technical and logistical aspects of the Championships to ensure their successful delivery and the achievement of their sporting and organizational objectives.
The Arab Cycling Federation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with its member national federations and supporting the hosting of Arab championships across the region, contributing to the continued development of cycling and the enhancement of competition standards throughout the Arab world.
