The Governor of Rural Damascus, Mr. Amer Al Sheikh, received H.E. Dr. Yasser Omar Al-Dokhi, President of the Arab Cycling Federation, accompanied by Dr. Ashraf Sayed Imam, Secretary General of the Arab Cycling Federation, Mr. Fadi Kalash, Executive Secretary of the Federation, and the accompanying delegation. The meeting was attended by Mr. Rami Sbeih, Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Youth, Mr. Abdullah Al Jazairi, Director of Individual Sports, Mr. Thaer Jahjah, Director of Government Communications, Mr. Maher Salim, President of the Syrian Arab Cycling Federation, and Mr. Ayman Hasna, Director of Sports and Youth in Rural Damascus. The meeting formed part of ongoing preparations for the Syrian Arab Republic’s hosting of the 2026 Arab Cycling Championships, scheduled for October.
The Governor of Rural Damascus reaffirmed the Governorate’s commitment to providing all forms of support necessary to ensure the success of the Championships. He noted that Syria’s hosting of this event represents an important milestone reflecting the country’s return to staging major Arab sporting events. He also emphasized that the Championships will be held in Syria for the first time in many years, demonstrating the growing confidence in the country’s ability to organize and host Arab sports events, supported by the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s commitment to developing Syrian sport across all disciplines.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the organizational and technical preparations for the Championships and discussed their importance in strengthening the Arab sporting presence in Syria. They also explored mechanisms for cooperation and coordination among the relevant authorities to ensure that all technical, organizational, and logistical requirements are met, guaranteeing the successful delivery of the event at a level befitting the status of Syrian sport.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides exchanged commemorative shields in recognition of the strong fraternal relations and mutual cooperation, reaffirming their shared commitment to the successful organization of the upcoming Arab Cycling Championships.
